J-80 wins White Group

John Cooper's J-80 'Oi!', won her class and took the overall White Group title in the 2009 Hamble Winter Series.
The Hyde Sails powered J-80 'Oi!' dominated the J-80 series to take the class title 12 points ahead of second-placed 'Boats.com', a performance which also saw John Cooper and his crew lifting the title for the best Sportsboat of the series.
John purchased 'Oi!' earlier in the year after a four-year break from sailing. "This was our first season in a J-80 with an entirely new crew, we didn't even know each others names at the start of the series! We were delighted to win and especially to beat such a great competitor as Ian (Atkins), I have raced against him many times in the 1720 class and he is a difficult opponent to beat. I hope we can keep the crew together and next year we plan to race in the Spring Series, the J-80 Europeans in Lake Garda and Cowes Week."
'Oi!' started the series strongly, posting two firsts and two seconds in the first four races. Over the rest of the event the team posted only one result outside the top four, to finish the series on 19 points, second was 'Boats.com' on 31 points, and third 'Elle Sappelle' on 44.
