Hyde develop new Swallow sails
Monday, 15 November 2010
Hyde has been working closely with the Swallow class association to develop new sails for the class for 2011.
The Swallow fleet will be enjoying updated sail designs for 2011, following a close liaison between the class and Hyde Sails.
The new Hyde Swallow sails, made to fit the new 2011 rule, had their first outing at Itchenor last month in bright sunshine and perfect testing conditions. Richard Lovering, Hyde's chief designer, gave them an immediate thumbs up apart from some minor tweaking to the jib leech to ensure the extra area allowed is fully exploited. The shape of both sails is good, however, and Mike Wigmore’s newly modified jib sheeting arrangements on 'Gwaihir' were soon getting the best from the new rig.
A mark two jib was ready a couple of weeks later and testing will continue into the autumn to make sure that next year’s sails will maximise every second of speed straight out of the box.
